What exactly makes an erection happen
Looking at a beautiful woman, a healthy man has a natural reaction – he gets turned on and the penis becomes firm. This normal process is rooted in the male physiology. However, not that many people wonder how exactly this happens.
The process of sexual arousal from visual or any other perception to erection goes through 4 stages:
1. The message is sent to the brain
Regardless of what was the reason for the arousal, the message reaches the brain very quickly (at a speed of 100 meters per second). The brain sends signals to the testicles and adrenal glands, which begin to produce testosterone. The key male hormone is responsible for libido and increases the sense of self-confidence and a will to take risks.
2. Dopamine production
In addition to testosterone, the brain gives the command to produce dopamine. This is another chemical that is responsible for sexual desire. Dopamine is produced in several areas of the brain. It engages all the body resources to achieve a vital goal. When the level of dopamine in the body is increased, the man actively trying to manifest the object of attraction, wanting to win them. At such moments, a man is quite tense, but the tension causes subjectively pleasant sensations due to an overabundance of energy in the body. Dopamine contributes to the transmission of a signal of sexual arousal from the brain to all limbs and also increases the blood flow that reaches the senses, muscles, and skin. Further, the signal of arousal reaches the penis, of course. There the blood vessels receive a command to produce nitric oxide.
3. The magic effect of nitric oxide
Nitric oxide has a relaxing effect on the penis tissue. The muscles surrounding the penis expand and fill with blood.
4. You have achieved what you wanted
Increased blood flow contributes to the filling of the cavernous and spongy bodies of the penis, thereby increasing its volume. At the same time, there is a pressure on the veins that drain blood, so the outflow of blood from the genitals decreases. The arterial blood pressure in the penis rises and it becomes firm and engorged resulting in a full erection state.
Further, there are two outcomes possible: either the man reaches an orgasm or the excitement passes for whatever reason.
