How often you should have sex
Sex plays a significant role in a man's life. Sex is not only about pleasure, but also an important health factor. Nevertheless, many people wonder how much sex is considered to be normal. Is it okay to make love several times a day, and can too frequent or, on the contrary, rare sexual contacts harm your health?
Here are 4 curious studies on the topic:
1. Princeton scientists conducted a large-scale experiment in which about 40 thousand couples took part. The study found that for people in a long-term relationship it is enough to have sex once a week.
The same opinion is shared by employees of the Swedish Association of sexual behavior. They say that for a married couple, sex once a week is the golden mean. Too much intimacy turns the whole process into a routine. As a result, partners engage in simple mechanical sex without the necessary emotional closeness.
2. Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania studied their students and came to the conclusion that those who have sex 1-2 times a week and more often, get sick twice less often. Unlike those who do not engage in sexual activities as regularly.
The reason for that effect is that during lovemaking, antibodies to eradicate viruses and infections are actively generated. Therefore, the secret of a strong immune system is simple: have sex at least 2 times a week. And sex 21 times a month will be an effective way to prevent prostate cancer.
3. Experts at the University of Florida found that 48 hours after sex, partners retain a kind of "aftertaste". It makes people feel warm and attached to each other, which means it is very important for building strong relationships. That is, the ideal frequency of sex, according to scientists from Florida is once every two days.
4. American scientists from the Kinsey Institute, that study sex, gender, and reproduction, believe that people should focus on their age in order to properly determine the frequency of sexual contact. They even offered a special calculation system:
- Age group 18-29 years: it is recommended to have sex approximately 112 times a year
- Age group 30-39 years: it is recommended to have sex about 86 times a year (2 times a week)
- Age group 40-49 years: it is recommended to have sex 69 times a year
But for whatever reason, this classification does not include people over 49.
As you can see, even scientists cannot reach a consensus about how many times you can and should have sex. Of course, it all depends on the personal characteristics of an individual. Here are three things that are important to consider when being intimate:
Your other half is not in the mood for intimacy
That is absolutely fine if your desires and aspirations don't always match. The main thing is not to force your partner. Try to approach this issue from a different angle: frank conversations, gentle hugs, touching, kissing. And look, now they want you.
Sex can negatively affect your health
Definitely can, if you don't know where to stop. The problems can range from dehydration and muscle pain to cystitis and vaginal microtraumas. If that happens, you absolutely do need to take a break from an overly active sex life.
Sex is not a magic pill to cure all diseases
Don't try to solve your psychological problems with sex. Tired of loneliness, drowned in depression, decided to get revenge on your ex? In such cases, a good psychotherapist will help, but not a sex marathon.
Sex should be fun. And it is your right to decide on the terms.
